Installing Fonts
Here are some details on installing fonts on various systems:
- Mac OS X: Apple's documentation on using Font Book to install fonts and Font locations and their purposes.
- Windows: Microsoft's documentation on Installing fonts on Windows.
- The HercPrt printer spooler for Windows for the Hercules-390 (SDL Hyperion 4.x) and Hercules-390 (spinhawk 3.xx) mainframe emulator requires monospaced TrueType font files. If you want to use the 1403 Vintage Mono typeface with it, please contact us after placing your order. We can then provide you with TrueType font files matching the order.
- SmartOS (Solaris), *BSD, Linux variants, X Window System:
Running mostly X.org / fontconfig / fc-cache:- Installing fonts in the X Window System. Basically:
mkdir ~/.fonts/; cp font-filename.otf ~/.fonts/; fc-config
- Installing fonts in the X Window System. Basically:
- TeX / LaTeX: XeTeX and LuaTeX should be able to use system-installed fonts. If you have a need for using Slanted Hall typefaces with another version of TeX, please contact us.
- troff/groff: The Heirloom Documentation Tools, enhanced versions of troff, dpost, et al, released as part of OpenSolaris, can use OpenType fonts. Installation and usage details are in the guide Font Handling in Troff with PostScript Devices. Other versions, such as groff, don't have direct support for OpenType features. If you have a need for using Slanted Hall typefaces with troff/groff, please contact us.
Using OpenType Features in Applications
- Apple OS X applications (TextEdit, Keynote, Numbers, Pages, etc. and 3rd party applications):
Apple's documentation on Using advanced typographic features.- Open Font panel (Command-T or select the Format->Font->Show Fonts menu option).
- Open Typography panel (Select Typography… from the Action menu, bottom left wheel icon).
- Adobe InDesign: Adobe's documentation Apply OpenType font attributes.
- Adobe PhotoShop: Adobe's documentation Apply OpenType features.
- Microsoft Word: Microsoft's documentation on using OpenType features in Microsoft Word 2010.
- Redler's Mellel: OpenType features can be selected from within the Character Appearances palette.
- TeX / LaTeX: XeTeX and LuaTeX should be able to use system-installed fonts. Dario Taraborelli (@readermeter) has some additional details on selecting OpenType features in XeTeX.
